Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) is Australia’s first free community legal service, providing legal assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Established from the Redfern protest movement, the organisation has grown into a major Aboriginal community-controlled legal service operating across multiple regional and metropolitan locations.
It delivers culturally appropriate legal advice, representation, and advocacy, while also working as a peak body for law reform, justice reform, and systemic accountability.
